This dish is tangy, yet has all the flavors for you to remember the taste. Most of us like very different versions of the Indian rice preparations. Such as lemon rice, tomato rice, jeera rice. The Amla rice stands apart due to the unique tangy & bitter taste. It is a must try during the weekends; has a refreshing taste & excites the palate.
Amla Rice - A South India Inspired Preparation
The next best thing to Amla fruit is the Good Lyfe Amla Superberry Powder. It has all the goodness and is USDA organic certified. Amla rice has been my recent favorites. It is tangy (of a different degree), has the crunch of the mustard, lentils, and the peanuts, and tastes most amazing. If you like tomato or lemon rice, you would definitely love this new combination. Amla's zest in the preparation is unbeatable.
Amla is a power-packed superfruit. Loaded with nutrients, it not only builds immunity (being full of Vitamin C) but also has numerous health benefits. Read our other section here on Top 4 benefits of Amla.
Coming back to the preparation, it is easy to make and can be had almost any time. The longest time is taken to prepare the rice. I prefer brown boiled rice compared to long grain Basmati white. However, the choice is purely personal.
2 cups of brown rice (or long grain basmati rice)
1/2 tbsp Mustard seeds
3 tbsp Chana dal (Bengal gram)
2 tbsp Urad dal (Black lentils)
3 tbsp Good Lyfe Project Amla Superberry Powder
2 Whole Dry Red Chilies
8-10 Curry leaves
2 tbsp Raw peanuts
1/2 tbsp Turmeric powder
1/2 tbsp Hing (asafoetida) powder
2 tbsp Cocounut or Olive Oil
1/8 cups peas cooked
Heat oil in a non-stick pan and add dry chilies, mustard seeds, and curry leaves.
When the mustard seeds start popping, add chana dal, urad dal, peas and raw peanuts
Add turmeric powder and saute for another 2 minutes
Add Amla powder and mix for another 2 minutes
Add rice, salt, mix well. Cook well for 3-4 minutes, mixing all the ingredients well. All the flavors and aroma should be absorbed by the rice
Your Amla Rice is ready. Serve hot!
You can use Coriander to garnish the rice preparation. This preparation is sure popular will all ages.
