One of my fond memories of my childhood was to have oil put in the hair on a winter morning sitting in the sun. My Nani, would get oils of different make to rub and my interest being more around on how much longer would she keep oiling. This would be directly proportional to the stories and head massage. Invariably I would sleep. Little that I knew that with these oils in my scalp, I already had a great foundation for healthy hair.
It doesn't require too much effort to maintain on a daily basis if one goes the natural route. Anyways the unnecessary use of the chemical supplements can have an adverse effect on the human body. Leave aside the residue that it would have in the environment. If you do want to go the natural way, India has rich traditions of such oils and herbs through Ayurveda. We will share a few of these through this series. The first one utilizes the powerful nutrients of Amla, or the Indian Gooseberry, coconut oil & Olive oil.
Amla, rich in iron, vitamin C & Zinc, has been traditionally used to make hair long, thick and strong. The rejuvenating property of Amla strengthens the hair follicles thereby inducing the hair growth and color.
Coconut oil is filled with the goodness of fatty acids. The regular use of the oil, removes the sebum build up around the hair follicles. Coconut Oil is particularly popular, especially in South India.
Olive Oil though not native to India, has been used for many centuries to add shine, body, and resilience to the hair. It is known to moisturize hair by penetrating the hair shaft and preserving the moisture.
